On 02/11/2008, the Rolling Meadows Board of Fire and Police Commissioners posted an eligibility list for entry-level Police Officer. This list has an expiration date of 02/11/2010. The next testing process will be scheduled for this summer, 2010. Please check back on occasion for updated information.

Our Police Department works as a team with the Community to provide service and protection to the residents of the City. It is composed of four units: Patrol, Investigations, Staff Services, and Support Services. We have 52 sworn full-time officers who follow a proud tradition of service, problem solving, and enforcement in meeting the needs of the Community. Our Department is a proud recipient of the 2002 International Community Policing Award and the 2005 Illinois Chiefs’ of Police Community Policing Award. Our Police Department facility was recently remodeled. The facility is designed for safe, efficient, and comfortable accommodation of employees. It contains spacious work areas, a physical fitness room, male and female locker rooms with showers, and its own firearms range. - Age requirement: At least 20 years of age at the time of the test process and 21-35 years of age by date of appointment
- Vision correctable to 20/40
- 48 semester hours from an Accredited College or University and completion of 60 credit hours upon completion of 18-month probation. In lieu of these educational requirements, a person may apply for the position of probationary police officer if they possess a high school diploma, and one of the following qualifications:
1. Each year of full-time law enforcement related experience (including police officer, correctional officer, civilian service officer related duties, or telecommunicator) counts as 30 college credit hours. 2. Each year of active military service counts as 30 college credit hours. 3. A combination of completed actual college credit hours and the above requirements that equal 48 college credit hours. NOTE: The maximum life experience credits shall not exceed 60 hours. - Valid Driver's license with good driving record
 - Pass the State of Illinois POWER Test
- Pass comprehensive written exam (s)
- Pass a series of rigid examinations:

- Extensive pre-employment background check including criminal and financial histories
- As of May 02, 2005, all persons accepting employment with the City of Rolling Meadows Police Department must agree that they will not smoke, chew, or use any tobacco product(s) on duty during the entire tenure of their employment. If they do smoke, chew, or use any tobacco product(s) while on duty at any time during the entire tenure of employment, they will be subject to dismissal for cause.

*Our Patrol Officers are represented by their own professional association, The Rolling Meadows Police Association. The Association negotiates a bargaining agreement with the City of Rolling Meadows every three years. **************************************** The Entry-Level Process While we have not begun to plan the next testing cycle, it is not unlikely that there will be some changes implemented. Use the following as an illustration of how future tests may be conducted. The elements of the selection process use rating criteria and minimum qualifications that are job related. Our examination process traditionally includes: - an orientation,
- a physical agility test, and
- a written examination.
The written examination scores and application forms of all candidates are forwarded to the City of Rolling Meadows Board of Fire & Police Commission. The Commission notifies the candidates of the written examination results, and manages the processing of the successful candidates in subsequent steps of the selection process. For the City of Rolling Meadows, these steps include an eligibility list established by the Commission in a descending numeric order. The candidate may then apply military points. After establishment of a Board of Fire & Police Commission certified list, offers of employment will be made to candidates in the order of their ranking on the eligibility list. Additional testing after an offer of employment will include: - Post-offer psychological examination
- Post-offer polygraph examination covering:
- Education, military, and employment history - Use of drugs - Accuracy of financial and drivers license information - History of criminal activity - Falsification of application verification of application. - Post-offer background investigation including personal, business, and employment references.
- Post-offer oral interviews
- Post-offer medical examinations
Appointment to the position of Police Officer will be made after successful completion of the testing process as well as: - Successful completion of the basic training academy, including all physical and academic requirements of the academy.
- Successful completion of an 18-month probationary period, including a 16-week field training program.
