The Community

The City of Rolling Meadows was incorporated in 1955 after the original developer, Kimball Hill, constructed affordable housing for post World War II veterans and their families, as well as Chicagoans who desired a suburban lifestyle. Since the, Rolling Meadows has developed into a mature community, divers in religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.

Nestled in the heart of the Golden Corridor, near Woodfield Shopping Center and Arlington International racetrack, Rolling Meadows is close to O'Hare airport as well as an excellent public transportation and expressway system.

Careful zoning and attention to detail have allowed the city to integrate a well managed parks and recreational system into the residential areas of its seven square miles. Corporate headquarters of many Fortune 500 companies as well as small business employ about 44,000 people and comprise a major part of the city's stable revenue base.

The Government

Rolling Meadows has a council-manager form of government. Seven wards elect one alderman to serve staggered terms, and who meet with the mayor and manager twice monthly. Rolling Meadows is a home rule community, and has various commissions to assist the council in its decision-making process.

The City of Rolling Meadows has an excellent executive officer administering each of the six major departments: Police, Fire, Finance & Administration, Health, Community Development,  and Public Works. The 180 employees of the city work in a professional and stable environment free from political influences.

The Department

Rolling Meadows Police Department employs 52 full-time officers plus 19 civilian support employees who enjoy a modern police facility which contains a fully equipped exercise center and locker rooms, as well as pistol range, and spacious parking for its fleet of vehicles.

Career rewards and developments are important aspects of the department. Training and experience through a variety of positions and ranks are readily available to any officer committed to becoming fulfilled in their job. After recruit training, officers undergo a three-year process of in-service and academic training. This process allows them to advance into such positions as Investigator, Evidence Technician, Traffic Specialist, Training Specialist, Bicycle Officer, School Resource Officer, Gang Specialist, Weapons & Defensive Tactics Instructor and Juvenile Officer. The Department also encourages and trains officers for future promotional opportunities.
