When the City of Rolling Meadows Fire Department is fully staffed, it has 43 full-time employees. The department consists of a Fire Chief, 4 civilian fire inspectors, 1 part-time secretary, and 42 sworn members. Our 42 sworn members break down by rank as follows: Two Deputy Chiefs, three Battalion Chiefs, seven Lieutenants, 30 Firefighter/Paramedics. Training for new Firefighters takes two or more years, starting with the Fire Academy, EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic) and Paramedic Training. Advanced and specialty training follows after basic training. We have a minimum daily manning of 11 Firefighters divided between two stations. The International Firefighters Association Local 3075 represents all Lieutenants and Firefighters. Each station mans an ALS (Advanced Life Support) Ambulance and an ALS Engine Company. Most of the Firefighters voluntarily participate in one or more of the special teams and/or committees. Reserve equipment is manned by callback of off-duty Firefighters. Training is the responsibility of a Deputy Chief on a full -time basis. Shift Lieutenants and Firefighters assist him. The Training Chief conducts training sessions, live fire burns, mass casualty drills, company drills, and fireground evolutions. Special Teams leaders coordinate training for their respective teams.
